All about blonde

Spring is here – This is how you go blonde for summer!

Spring is approaching and with it comes the most popular season to go blonde. To help you achieve the perfect blonde shade, we've created a guide that makes it possible to get the color of your dreams - without having to spend a fortune on salon visits. Here we answer common questions, such as why hair sometimes turns yellow and what really separates a toning from a bleaching.

CAN I DYE MY HAIR BLONDE?

There are several options for lightening hair, but it is important to remember that hair dye cannot lighten already colored hair. If you apply a lighter True Colour color to already colored hair, the new pigments will mix with the old ones and may lead to a darker result depending on the initial state of the hair.

To achieve a clear and fresh blonde shade, you need to bleach your hair. If you choose to bleach your hair at home, it can be difficult to get an even result, so we recommend that you go to a professional hairdresser. October Stockholm has salons in both Hudiksvall and Stockholm.

BRIGHTEN UP THE GROWTH AT HOME

If you have a darker regrowth than the lengths, it is actually possible to lighten it with a True Colour colour. As we mentioned earlier, colour cannot lighten other colours, but if you have uncoloured regrowth, the colour can lighten it by up to two shades. This can provide a soft and natural transition and is a great option between salon visits to keep costs down.

BLEACH YOUR HAIR AT HOME

Bleaching your hair at home is possible, but it is important to be careful not to apply too much or too little product, and to distribute the amount evenly. After bleaching, hair can often take on a yellow or orange tone, as bleaching only lightens the hair and does not add any violet or ashy pigments.

As you go from a dark to a lighter result, the underlying pigments will show through. From brown to red, from red to orange and from orange to yellow. Therefore, it is important to carefully follow the process and make sure that the bleaching does not sit for too long.

Once the bleach has been rinsed out and you see the results, you can use a toning to neutralize unwanted pigments. If you get a yellow result from the bleach, the violet pigment is needed to neutralize the yellow tone. Since every hair color is unique, we recommend that you contact our free support so that our hairdressers can guide you to the right shade.

WHY DOES BLONDE HAIR TURN YELLOW?

It is common for blonde hair to take on a more yellow tone over time. This may be because the toning that was once applied has washed out and the yellow pigments underneath are starting to show again. If the hair is porous from repeated bleaching, metals in the water can more easily penetrate the hair and leave a yellow tint.

MAINTAIN YOUR BLONDE SHADE AT HOME

Did you know that silver shampoo, if used too often, can wear down your hair and cause your blonde shade to lose its luster? It's common for a blonde shade to turn yellow or orange over time. To keep your blonde shade fresh and cool between hairdressing visits, we recommend that you maintain your hair with a toning treatment from True Colour.

To reduce the yellow pigments, you can mix LILAC and CLEAR in equal parts together with Activator Vol. 5. Our tint provides maximum shine and gloss and is enriched with Ceramide A2, Macadamia oil and Cranberry extract.

THE COLOR CIRCLE

When colouring your hair, it's always a good idea to use the colour wheel as a starting point. True Colour is a professional hair colour that is suitable for home use, and all our colours are designed to be mixed to give you exactly the result you want. By using the opposite colour on the colour wheel, you can neutralise unwanted tones. If your hair is too yellow, add violet pigments, or if it's too orange, use ashy (blue) pigments.

It is important to note that a violet or ashy tone will not turn your hair blue or purple – they are only used to neutralize the yellow or orange tones in your hair.

CLEAR is a tint that does not work on its own, but is mixed to soften and create a more nuanced tint for a softer result. LILAC helps neutralize yellow pigments, and is mixed with CLEAR to create a balanced tint. All True Colour tints are mixed with Activator Vol. 5 for best results.
