How to Successfully Cover Gray Hair!

Achieving natural and long-lasting results when covering gray hair requires the right technique and products. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the best tips for achieving an even, glossy color that lasts – no matter how much gray you have. Here’s everything you need to know for successful gray coverage!

Why do we get gray hair?

Let's find out why we turn grey. Hair follicles contain melanin, the pigment in hair. When the body stops producing melanin, hair turns grey or white. When this happens depends on your genes – it can start in your teens or not until around 50. Most people see their first grey hairs in their 30s, and by 50 they often have over 50% grey hair. With reduced pigment, hair also becomes coarser.

Going gray is natural !

More and more people are embracing their natural gray hair – and some are even choosing to dye their hair gray! Going gray is a personal and inspiring journey, and we’re here to guide you, no matter what color you want to achieve. This guide is about gray coverage for those who want to return to their natural hair color.

How to cover gray hair like a professional

When applying a color to cover gray hair, you may want to reduce the amount of activator slightly. Our .0 series is specifically designed for gray coverage and contains more warm pigments than other colors, providing 100% coverage on hair with 70-100% white hair.

Avoid applying to the lengths:

Gray hair coverage color with 20 vol (6% hydrogen peroxide) is stronger than the lengths need, especially if they are already color-treated, which can cause dehydration.

The .0 series contains more warm pigments for optimal gray coverage, which can make the lengths darker than the base because dry lengths absorb pigment more easily. Instead, use the same shade in a neutral series for the lengths with 5 vol (1.5%) to protect the hair.

Tips For Natural Tones:

If you want to mix the .0 series with another shade and still maintain 100% coverage, add 1/3 of the other shade to your color mix before application.

Good luck!
